Expert Tooth Extractions in Worcester: Safe, Comfortable Care

You and Dr. Bui may determine that you need a tooth extraction for any number of reasons. Some teeth are extracted because they are severely decayed; others may have advanced periodontal disease, or have broken in a way that cannot be repaired. Other teeth may need removal because they are poorly positioned in the mouth (such as impacted teeth), or in preparation for orthodontic treatment.

The removal of a single tooth can lead to problems related to your chewing ability, problems with your jaw joint, and shifting teeth, which can have a major impact on your dental health.

To avoid these complications, in most cases, Dr. Bui will discuss alternatives to extractions as well as replacement of the extracted tooth

Frequently asked questions

When is a tooth extraction necessary?

Many cases may require tooth extraction, including: -Infection that damages the majority of the tooth and supporting bone structure. -Extreme decay that makes a restoration impossible. -Crowding caused by too many teeth to fit correctly in the mouth.

Is a tooth extraction painful?

The tooth extraction process begins with the administration of a local anesthetic to ensure you don't experience any pain during the procedure. You may feel a brief sting from the injection, but once the anesthetic takes effect, you should not feel any pain. While you may experience some pressure, it is normal to feel little to no discomfort during the extraction.

What happens after a tooth extraction?

After your tooth extraction, it’s important to allow time for healing. Take a few days to rest and care for your teeth and gums. To minimize discomfort, follow these helpful tips: -Sleep with your head slightly elevated -Take the prescribed pain medication as directed -Stick to soft foods -Avoid spitting, rinsing, or using a straw -Refrain from touching the extraction site unless advised by Dr. Bui

The tooth extraction process

At the time of extraction the doctor will need to numb your tooth, jaw bone, and gums that surround the area with a local anesthetic.

During the extraction process you will feel a lot of pressure. This is from the process of firmly rocking the tooth in order to widen the socket for removal.

You feel the pressure without pain as the anesthetic has numbed the nerves stopping the transference of pain, yet the nerves that transmit pressure are not profoundly affected.

If you do feel pain at any time during the extraction please let us know right away.

Sectioning a tooth

Some teeth require sectioning. This is a very common procedure done when a tooth is so firmly anchored in its socket or the root is curved and the socket can’t expand enough to remove it. The doctor simply cuts the tooth into sections and then removes each section one at a time.

What is tooth extraction

Tooth extraction is the process of removing a tooth. While we always aim to preserve natural teeth, there are situations where extraction may be the most effective solution to restore your smile’s health and function. After the extraction, we offer a variety of excellent tooth replacement options to help you regain a healthy, beautiful, and fully functional smile.

Tooth extraction may be necessary in several cases, including:

  • Severe infection that has compromised a significant portion of the tooth and supporting bone structure

  • Extensive decay that has irreparably damaged the tooth, making restoration impossible

  • Crowding caused by too many teeth for the available space in the mouth
